Austrian Energy Cert

Austrian Energy CERT (AEC) is the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for the Austrian Electricity and Natural Gas sector. AEC plays an important role in increasing the resilience against cyberattacks in the Austrian energy industry. With the creation of the sector CERT for the energy industry, November 2016, Austria implemented the specifications of the EU directive for Network and Information Security (NIS) as well as the recommendations of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA).

Major goal of the Austrian Energy CERT is the strengthening of the IT security expertise for the energy sector. This includes Security Incident Management (process daily incoming requests), conducting trainings, attending international cyber exercises or helping in the creation of security concepts for the Austrian energy industry. Furthermore, the AEC acts as single point of contact in case of national or international security incidents affecting the Austrian energy sector. AEC communicates and coordinates with national and international IT security experts or authorities within the energy industry.

The Austrian Energy CERT aims at raising awareness and strengthening the cyber capabilities of the energy sector.

May 2nd, 2017: Austrian Energy CERT started operating in trial mode.
